Volleyball Team Loses at No. 11 Ranked UW-Whitewater

No. 11 ranked UW-Whitewater beat the Falcon volleyball team, three sets to none, on Saturday afternoon in Whitewater.

UWW won the first set, 25-16. The Falcons played better in the second set, but lost, 25-20. The third set was the closest with UWW finishing the match with a 27-25 win.

Erin Green (Fridley, MN, Fridley) led the Falcon offensive attack with 13 kills and a .296 hitter percentage. She also had two solo blocks. Sami Kaminski (Weyerhaeuser, WI, Weyerhaeuser) finished with eight kills and she also had two solo blocks. Courtney Preiner (Oakdale, MN, Hill-Murray) led the Falcons with eight digs while Linnea Osterberg (Center City, MN, Chisago Lakes) and Kaminkski each had six. Jean Theis (Shakopee, MN, Shakopee), who had three kills, had one solo and one block assist. Mackenzie Suda (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) led UWRF with 16 assists and Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie) finished with 14.

The Falcons had a .303 hitting percentage in set three - their best of the match. In all three sets they finished with a .206 hitting percentage. The Falcons committed just two service errors, but only had two aces.

Caitlin Hogan led UWW, now 15-4 overall and a perfect 5-0 in WIAC play, with 18 kills. Sofia Sanchez finished with 15. UWW had a .390 hitting percentage in the match. UWW now holds a 41-12 lead in the all-time series between the two teams.

The Falcons, now 10-8 overall and 1-4 in the WIAC, will next compete in the Coe College Tournament on Friday and Saturday. On Friday they face North Central at 6 p.m., and Coe at 8 p.m.
