Falcon Women's Hockey Team Sweeps Concordia

Kait Mason added a goal and two assists as the Falcons defeated Concordia 5-1 Saturday afternoon on the road.

The Falcons scored a goal in each of the periods and tallied three in the final period.

Concordia struck first in the contest late in the first period slipping a goal past Falcon goaltender Ashley Kuechle (Saskatoon, SASK, Battleford Sharks) at 17:58. Katie Flanagan (Roseville, MN, Roseville HS) and the Falcons answered with just under 90-seconds to play in the period. She scored her first goal of the season, tying the game at one. Kait Mason (Eagan, MN, Eagan HS) assisted.

In the second, Dorn, Ali (Thief River Falls, MN, Thief River Falls HS) broke the 1-1 tie with her first goal the season at 15:14 off Mason's second assist of the afternoon.

In the third, the Falcons added to their lead 1:12 into the period. Brook Story scored her team leading third goal. Jessica Thompson (Shoreview, MN, Mounds View HS) assisted on the play. Hrabe, Breanne (New Prague, MN, New Prague HS) made it 4-1 with her second goal of the season at 3:23 with assists from Vikstrom, Bailey (Burnsville, MN, Burnsville HS) and Kayleigh Bell (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater HS). Mason added her third point of the contest on an unassisted goal at 4:42.

Between the pipes, Kuechle stopped 26-27 shots she faced in 60:00. She recorded her first collegiate win and is 1-0.

UWRF out shot Concordia 37-27 but only managed three shots in the first. They out shot Concordia 20-10 and 14-9 in the second and third periods respectively.

Neither team converted a power play. UWRF missed on eight and Concordia missed on five.

With the sweep the Falcons are now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in NCHA play. Next week they look to continue their winning ways when they host an unbeaten Lake Forest for their home opener. Lake Forest has only beaten the Falcons three times in 32 regular season games. Action is set to get underway at 7 p.m. at Hunt Arena.
