The UWRF Volleyball team defeated the Blue Devils of UW-Stout by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday night. The victory snapped a two game losing streak for the Falcons. The match, which was hosted by Stout in Menomonie Wis., hosted a total of 236 fans.
Following the victory, the Falcons have extended their record to 7-5. The match was the first WIAC victory for UWRF this season, as they now hold a record of 1-2 in conference play.
The Falcons won the first set 25-18, the second set 25-11, and the third set 25-18 to shut out the Blue Devils.
Leading the Falcons in points was the sophomore,
Erin Green (Fridley, MN, Fridley). Green totaled an impressive 10 kills. She led both teams in the category. Other outstanding performances came from
Lauren Matask (Eden Prairie, MN, Minnetonka),
Courtney Preiner (Oakdale, MN, Hill-Murray),
Mackenzie Suda (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) and
Sami Kaminski (Weyerhaeuser, WI, Weyerhaeuser).
Preiner also led the Falcons in digs with 12. Suda led the team with assists with 17. Coming in second in assists to Suda was
Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, MN), who also had nine assists.
Jenna Mettler (Nicollet, MN, Nicollet) led the Falcons in blocks with four.
After the crucial WIAC victory, the Falcons are preparing to begin competition at the Red Hawk Invitational, hosted by Ripon College. UWRF will face off against UW-Stevens Point at 6 p.m., and then Lakeland College at 8 p.m., on Friday.
