Volleyball Team Finishes 2-1 at Muskie Invitational

The Falcon volleyball team finished 2-1 at the Muskie Invitational held Friday and Saturday at Lakeland College in Sheboygan.

On Friday the Falcons opened the tourney with a 3-2 win over Millikin. On Saturday the Falcons won again, this time beating Lakeland, 3-1. The Falcons lost their final match of the tourney to No. 6 ranked Oshkosh, 3-1.

Outside hitter Danielle Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall) and libero Courtney Preiner (Oakdale, MN, Hill-Murray) were both named to the All-Tournament team.

River Falls 3, Millikin 2 (25-22, 14-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-13)

The Falcons won the first set, but then lost the next two. But the Falcons came back to win the last two sets, including a 15-13 decision in the fifth set.Gibbemeyer and Erin Green (Fridley, MN, Fridley) led the Falcon offense with 12 kills each. Preiner led the team with 30 digs and Sami Kaminski (Weyerhaeuser, WI, Weyerhaeuser)added 19. Green had one solo and four block assists. Mackenzie Suda (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) led the team with two aces and 23 assists. Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie)had 20 assists.

River Falls 3, Lakeland 1 (25-20, 26-28, 25-20, 25-22)
Green played a dominant role up front and led the Falcons with 17 kills. She also had an ace and two solo and two block assists. Gibbemeyer contributed 13 kills to the offense and 19 digs to the defense. Once again Preiner played a key role in the win leading the team with 29 digs. Suda had four of the team's six aces and led the team with 23 assists. Buchanan finished with 21 assists. UWRF hit a season-best .215 in the match.

Oshkosh 3, River Falls 1 (25-19, 26-28, 25-18, 25-16)
The Falcons ran into a hot and talented Titan team in the loss. Jean Theis (Shakopee, MN, Shakopee) and Gibbemeyer led the Falcons with 10 kills each. Gibbemeyer had 15 digs and two block assists. Preiner once again led the Falcon defense finishing with 31 digs. Suda, who had 13 digs, led the Falcons with 21 assists while Buchanan had 17 assists and 10 digs. Kaminksi, who had five kills, had 11 digs.

The Falcons, now 2-2, will next host Augsburg on Wednesday at 7 p.m., at the Karges Center. It will be the first home match of the season for the Falcons.
