Box Score

The Falcon men's hockey team defeated the Saints of the College of St. Scholastica by a score of 3-1 at Hunt Arena on Saturday night.

River Falls energetically responded to their disappointing 3-2 loss against the Saints last night at Hunt,  by playing clean, smart hockey. St. Scholastica defeated the Falcons last night with a goal in the final minutes of the third period, despite the Falcons dominating most aspects of play.

At goaltender for the Falcons was the always-impressive freshman, Scott Lewan (Westland, MI, Alberni Valley, BCHL). Lewan earned the start over veteran Eric Babcook (Centennial, CO, Canmore, AJHL), who had a very solid performance on Friday night despite the Falcons coming away with the loss.

Scoring the first goal of the game and the lone goal of the first period was Justin Brossman (Littleton, CO, Sioux City, USHL) at 12:44. Brossman was unassisted.

Thirteen was the lucky number for Lewan, who tallied 13 saves in each of the three periods of the game. In net for the Saints was Patrick Sullivan, who made nine saves in the first period.

Andy Inderieden (Maple Grove, MN, Topeka, NAHL) extended the Falcon lead to two by sinking a shot against Sullivan at 2:13 in the second period. Assisting Inderieden on his third goal of the season was Derek Kaiser (Crookston, MN, Alexandria, NAHL) and Chris Salomone (Homer Glen, IL, Traverse City, NAHL).

Brossman struck again at 3:43 in the second period. The goal was Brossman's eighth of the season thus far. With the goal, Brossman takes the lead spot on the Falcons roster for points scored this season. Assisting Brossman on the goal was John Bullis (Frisco, TX, Texas, NAHL).

Sullivan made nine saves in the second period against the Falcon offense.

The third period consisted of aggressive hockey, as the Saints tried to cut their scoring deficit and the Falcons tried to preserve their shutout. Lewan was 34 seconds away from blanking the Saints, but Chad Golanowski refused to allow his team to remain scoreless for the entire 60 minutes. Golanowski's goal came as both teams battled for the puck in front of the Falcon's net. Assisting Golanowski on the goal was Brett Corcoran and Garet Chumley. With the win, Lewan holds a record of 4-6-1 on the season.

River Falls is now 7-9-1 this season, going 3-7-0 in NCHA play following their big win over the Saints. The Falcons will be on the road for their next game, a conference matchup against the Pointers of UW- Stevens Point. The two teams will be facing off in a crucial weekend series on Friday and Saturday night. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m. for both matchups.
