The Falcon women's basketball team extended its winning streak to five in a 61-47 win over UW-Stout Wednesday night at the Karges Center.
UWRF has won five straight games for the second time this year. The Falcons opened this year with a loss, but then won five straight games.
The Falcons were lead by Tiffany Gregorich (Altoona, Altoona) who finished with a game-high 20 points. Sixteen of her points came in the second half.
Maranda Dohrn (Lake City, MN, Lake City) finished with a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 16 boards. Her 16 boards led all players and is a season high for the junior. The Falcon defense turned it on by grabbing a season-best 57 boards throughout the night. Twenty-one of the Falcon rebounds came on the offensive side. They also limited the Blue Devils to 37.
Alise Holst (Plainview, MN, Plainview-Elgin-Millville) came close to a double-double, and was the third Falcon to score in double digits. She finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
After Stout scored the first three points to open the game, the Falcons quickly responded and never relinquished the lead. The Falcons would lead by as many as 16, which came with 13:09 to play. The Falcon defense never let the Blue Devils get closer than seven in the second half.
The Falcons fired a steady 35.8 percent from the field, connecting on 24-67 shots. The Blue Devils meanwhile shot a mere 28.1 percent or 16-57.
Neither team shot particularly well from the free throw line. UWRF was 11-18 or 61.1 percent and UWS was a dismal 12-23 or 52.2 percent.
The game also was low on three-pointers as the Falcons made two and Stout finished with three.
Kayla Windt led the Blue Devils with 12 points on the night, followed by Whitney Rawdon with 11.
The Falcons improved to 11-3 overall and 3-2 in the WIAC. The Falcons are now 6-1 at the Karges Center. Stout falls to 5-8 on the year and 0-4 in the WIAC.
Up next for the Falcons is a WIAC match up at UW-Whitewater. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., on Saturday. The Falcons are 24-49 all time against the Warhawks. UWW enters the game ranked No. 15 in this week's D3hoops.com poll.
