The Falcons, behind a veteran lineup on attack and a lights-out performance by sophomore goaltender
Scott Lewan (Westland, MI, Alberni Valley, BCHL), have started their season off undefeated. The Falcons not only dropped six goals on their foes, but shut out the Lions for the second straight night at Hunt Arena.
Last night Lewan led the Falcons to a 4-0 victory after recording the fourth shutout of his young career. After tonight, he can tally his fifth.
The first score of the night came from
Alec Hagaman (Peoria, IL, Topeka, NAHL) early in the first period. The goal was against senior goaltender Mike Wuthrich, who replaced Cedrik LeFrance as the starter in net following last night's game. Hagaman's goal came on a power play following a cross-checking call on Lion Kevin Smith just nineteen seconds into competition. Hagaman was assisted by
John Bullis (Frisco, TX, Texas, NAHL) and
Jason Yuel (Winnipeg, MAN, Prince George, BCHL).
Willie Hess (Lino Lakes, MN, Fresno, NAHL) would go on to extend the Falcon lead midway through the second period. The score was the first of Hess's collegiate career, and he was assisted by
Jake Calleja (New Richmond, WI, Wisconsin, MnJHL), a junior that joined the Falcons this offseason. Calleja is the younger relative of
Josh Calleja (New Richmond, Wisconsin, MnJHL), who as a senior was second in points scored for the Falcons last season.
The dominant Falcon offense would continue to enforce their superiority on the consequent faceoff as
Geoff Shewmake (Chicago, IL, Bradford, GMHL) sunk a shot to extend the Falcon lead by 3. The goal was Shewmake's second of the season as he hit mesh against LeFrance in the second period of last evening's matchup.
Sean Roadhouse (Tulsa, OK, Texas, NAHL), a senior presence in the Falcon locker room and one of the team captains, scored his second goal of the season at 15:19 in the period with an assist from
Justin Brossman (Littleton, CO, Sioux City, USHL). Brossman was first in points scored for the Falcons last season and has showed this weekend that he plans on being a dangerous force on offense again this year.
The Lions went on to replace Wuthrich with LeFrance for the third period. The change in goaltenders was not enough to stop the Falcons, who ripped shots at every opportunity and dominated possession of the puck. Yuel scored the fifth goal of the game at 14:47 with an assist from Shewmake.
Brossman hit the back of the next for the final time of the game at 18:54 on a power play chance following a tripping penalty on Vinny Pietrangelo. Brossman was assisted by
George Malliaras (Palos Hills, IL, Texas, NAHL) and Roadhouse.
Lewan tallied a total 21 saves in his shut-out performance and has consequently yet to be scored on this season.
The Falcons will be facing off against Hamline University at Friday night at Hunt Arena with hopes to remain undefeated. The puck is set to drop at 7:05 p.m.
