Volleyball Team Drops Two Matches at Northwestern Tournament

Theis, Preiner Named to All-Tournament Team

The Falcon volleyball team lost twice on Friday at the Northwestern Tournament to even its record at 2-2 for the season.

Bethel took a 3-0 win in UWRF's first match of the day. The Royals won, 29-27, 25-17, 25-22. In a second match, the Falcons lost to Northwestern, 3-1, 25-18, 25-23, 16-25, 25-16.

"We were able to play several individuals today," said Falcon Coach Patti Ford."And that's what some of these early season matches are about. We need to keep growing and developing our game."

Both Courtney Preiner (Oakdale, MN, Hill-Murray) and Jean Theis (Shakopee, MN, Shakopee) were named to the eight-member All-Tournament team.

The Falcons ran into a hot Bethel team in its first match and lost in three sets. Thies led UWRF with 10 kills and Danielle Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall) had eight. The Falcons hit just .018 in the match. Preiner had 14 digs and Gibbemeyer finished with nine. Erin Green (Fridley, MN, Fridley), who had six kills, had four block assists and Gibbemeyer had three block assists. Mackenzie Suda (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) had 16 assists and Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie) 12. Twelve Falcons played in the match.

The Falcons lost to the host school in its second match. UWRF hit better in this match with a .121 hitting percentage. Theis led UWRF with 13 kills and Green had 12. Theis hit .417. Suda led the Falcons with 36 assists, five aces and 10 digs. Theis led the Falcons at the net with one solo and three block assists while Green had four block assists. UWRF had 10 service errors and 10 reception errors. Twelve Falcons played in the four-set match.

The Falcons, now 2-2 overall, will next play at Agusburg on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
