Women's Hockey Team Gets Sweep Over Marian

Falcons Get 5-3 Win at Hunt Arena

Brook Story scored two goals and had one assist to help lead the Falcon women's hockey team to a 5-3 win, and a series sweep, over Marian on Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.

Story's linemate, Katie Batters, had a goal and two assists in the Falcon win.

Marian scored the only goal of the first period - a period that statistically the Falcons dominated. Amanda Waigand scored the goal, unassisted, at 12:15. She took an initial shot that was stopped by Falcon goalie Ashley Kueschle, but Waigand banged the rebound home through the five-hole. The Falcons, ranked No. 8 in this week's USCHO.com poll, had a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal and didn't allow a shot on goal until the midway point of the period.

The Falcons responded with a strong start in the second period and scored three times. Story tied the game at 1:32 with her fourth goal of the year. She was assisted by Batters. Batters fed Story with a cross ice pass and Story one-timed it home. At 6:18 the Falcons took the lead when Alyssa Jackson scored. She scored her fourth goal of the year from about 12 feet out to the goalie's right. Kendall Evenson picked up the lone assist. Batters and Story connected on the gam'e next goal that gave UWRF a 3-1 lead at 19:02. Batters scored the goal, her team-best 14th of the year, from Story. Batters scored from about 15 feet in front of the MU goal. The Sabres got back to within one, 3-2, with just 24 seconds to play in the period. Megan Sesing-Gomoll scored the goal from about 20 feet to the left of the Falcon goal. The Falcons didn't allow a MU shot on goal until 8:25 was left in the period and ended the stanza with a 19-5 advantage.

In the final period Story scored her second of the game at 5:10 with Batters and Crysta Lowell getting the assists to make it a 4-2 game. Batters centered the puck to Story from down low. The Falcons got their final goal while on the power play. Kait Mason got the goal with Emma Nordness and Sam Greeley getting the assists. Mason scored from in close off the pass from Nordness. It was her seventh goal of the year. Greeley picked up her first assist of the year on the play. The final goal was by Marian's Waigand at 11:21. Once again the Falcons did not allow a shot on goal until Waigand's goal that came with 8:39 to play in the period. The Falcons finished with a 9-2 advantage in shots in the period.

The Falcons outshot the Sabres, 40-11, in the game. UWRF finished 1-5 on the power play while Marian was 0-2. UWRF was called for two minor penalties and Marian for five.

Kuechle played the first two periods and made seven stops for the Falcons to pick up the win. She is now 6-0-2 this year. Melissa Deardorff played the third period and stopped one shot. MU goalie, Amanda Alexander stopped 35 Falcon shots.

The Falcons, now 15-3-2 overall and 13-2-1 in the NCHA, will next host Concordia in a NCHA weekend series on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game starts at 7:05 p.m., followed by Saturday's game at 2:05 p.m.
