Strong Team Performance Gives Falcons 8-1 Victory

Twelve Different Falcons Contributed in Scoring

The UW-River Falls Falcons hosted the Finlandia University Lions out at Hunt Arena tonight.This was both teams season opener.

River Falls beat Finlandia 8-1 with an overall strong team performance.Six different Falcons scored goals in the game and 12 different Falcons contributed to the scoring, including a three assist game for defenseman George Malliaras.

River Falls wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard. They scored three goals in the first period, two of which came in the first six minutes of the period. The freshman Chris Blessing got things going for the Falcons early with his first collegiate goal. The goal came at 2:59 into the game.Not long after fellow freshman Zach Schrotenboer added his first collegiate goal at 5:26 into the game. The two freshmen both had two goal games.

Cody Essel was the lone Lion to score coming 6:20 into the second period.The Falcons answered with goals from Alec Hagaman and Riley Borer only minutes after to make it a five to one game. Hagaman had one goal and one assist in the game.

The Falcons did not let off in the third period adding three more goals.Including one from Captain Sean Roadhouse who missed the majority of last year with an injury.

Helping out on the scoring with two assists each were defensman Jeff Burke and Jon Schreiner. The Falcons played an unselfish game with an assist coming off all eight of their goals.

River Falls out shot Finlandia 47-20 in the game. Goalie Scott Lewan had a good performance and  was able to save 19 of Finlandia's 20 shots Finlandia started the game with Jordan Marr at goalie and pulled him for Scott Chandler.The two combined for 39 saves.

Finlandia went zero for six on power play opportunities however while River Falls scored on their only power play chance.

River Falls will continue play tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m., at Hunt Arena against the Marion University Sabres.
