Women's Hockey Skates to 2-2 OT Tie in Eau Claire

The UW-River Falls women's hockey team tied UWEC 2-2 after scoring late in the third period for the second straight night to force overtime. Both games this weekend resulted in a tie.

After tying 1-1 last night both teams came out scoring goals within the first three minutes of play. UWEC was first to strike at 2:31 off the Andi Husted goal. Fifteen seconds later at 2:46 into the period Brooke Story answered off the assist by Katie Batters. This was Story's second goal of the season.  After the hot start neither team was able to get another goal in the period.

UWRF had four power play opportunities in the first period but could not come up with any goals off them. Overall on the game UWRF went on 0-6 power play chances and UWEC went 0-3 on power play chances.

At 7:54 into the second period UWEC player Nikki Kothenbeutel scored off the Katie Ward assist. This was the lone goal of the period despite UWRF out shooting UWEC up to that point. Overall in the game UWRF had 40 shots compared to the 22 shots for UWEC.

Chloe Kinsel scored a goal at 12:34 into the third period to tie the game 2-2. The goal was the second of the season for Kinsel.

Gillian McDonald started in net tonight as UWRF continues to use two different goalies every weekend. She recorded 20 saves in the game. UWEC goalie Paige Turner recorded 38 saves.

"We ran into a really good goalie tonight. She was a big difference maker in both games this weekend,” said Falcon Coach Joe Cranston after the game. “We had several good scoring chances and just couldn't find the back of the net."

UWRF now moves to 3-1-2 on the season and UWEC moves to 1-5-2.

UWRF will host St. Olaf College for their next game on Tuesday, Nov. 20 with the puck set to drop at 7:05 p.m.
