Sean Roadhouse and
Adam Cardwell each scored a goal and assist to help lead the Falcon men's hockey team to a 4-2 win at Hamline on Saturday night.
UWRF, ranked No. 12 in the Oct. 29 USCHO.com poll, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Roadhouse scored at 10:41 to give the Falcons the lead, He was assisted by Cardwell and
Blake Huppert and it was his third goal of the yound season.
Tyler Briola put the Falcons ahead, 2-0, with a goal at 16:43. He was assisted by
Zach Schrotenboer and Bill Simon. It was Briola's first goal of the year.
Both teams scored in the second period. Willie Hess scored his first goal of the year at 6:28 to put the Falcons ahead 3-0. He was assisted by Schrotenboer. The Falcons took back-to-back-to-back minor penalties at 7:55, 10:41 and 11:28. HU took advantage of a five-on-three situation to score and make it a 3-1 game. Joe Rubbelke scored the power-play goal at 11:40.
The Pipers got to within a goal, 3-2, at 3:11 of the third period when
Sam Leslie scored. UWRF took another minor penalty at 3:26 but wrestled the momentum back when Cardwell scored, shorthanded. Roadhouse and George Mallairas got the assists on the team's first short-handed goal of the year. The goal came just 13 seconds into the HU power play.
Falcon goalie
Scott Lewan made 23 saves to pick up the win. He is now 4-0 this year. HU's Matt Hemingway stopped 26 Falcon shots. UWRF is now 17-3 all-time in games against Hamline.
The Falcons, now 4-0 overall, will open NCHA play next weekend with a series against the two-time NCAA National Champion St. Norbert Green Knights. The games are at St. Norbert and start at 7 p.m., on Friday and Saturday. SNC was ranked No. 1 in the nation in the Oct. 29 UISCHO.com poll.
