Leah Gefroh (Bloomington, MN) scored two goals and Katie Batters (Champlin, MN, Champlin Park HS) scored her fifth goal of the season, but the Falcons lost, 5-4, on a late Stevens Point goal on Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.

In the first period, the Falcons outshot the Pointers, 16-9, and both teams scored goals.

Stevens Point would strike first at 1:53, when Allie Tanzer scored on an assist from Janel Winters to give the Pointers an early, 1-0, lead.

The Falcons would answer, at 10:05, in the first when Gefroh scored her first of two goals in the game. The goal was assisted by Chloe Kinsel (West St. Paul, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and tied the game at 1-1.

In the second period, both teams shot 11 times and the Falcons would be the only team to find the back of the net.

Late in the second, at 17:03, Gefroh scored her second goal of the game on the powerplay to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead. Kait Mason (Eagan, MN, Eagan HS) and Alice Cranston (River Falls, WI, St. Croix Valley Fusion) assisted the goal.

In the third period, the Pointers would outshoot the Falcons, 17-15, and six goals would be scored between both teams.

Early in the period, at 1:15, Cassandra Salmen would score the first of three straight goals for Stevens Point. Emily Lester and Nicole Schaub were credited with assists as the Pointers tied the game 2-2.

Lester would strike next for Stevens Point at 2:59 to give the Pointers the lead back, 3-2. Salmen picked up the assist.

At 9:22 Josie Johnson scored unassisted to pad the Pointer lead and make it 4-2.

The Pointer onslaught wasn't enough to finish off the Falcons, however, as UWRF raced back and tied the game.

At 11:37 Batters scored unassisted and just under three minutes later at 14:03 Amanda Ryder (Menomonie, WI) scored unassisted to tie the game back up at 4-4.

Stevens Point would deal the final blow to the Falcons at 15:44 when Salmen scored on the powerplay to give the Pointers a 5-4 lead and the eventual win.

Gillian McDonald (New Brighton, MN, Irondale HS), who started the game in net for the Falcons, recorded 26 saves and Ashley Kuechle (Saskatoon, SASK, Battleford Sharks), who took over in the third period, recorded six saves.

The loss drops the Falcons to 5-2-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the NCHA. The win move Stevens Point to 6-2-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the NCHA.
