Blake Huppert (Wasilla, Alaska, Alaska, NAHL) scored two goals and Jon Schreiner (Lakeville, MN, Fairbanks, NAHL) recorded two assists as the Falcon men's hockey team defeated Augsburg College, 7-4, Thursday night at Hunt Arena.

In the first period, the Falcons were outshot by Augsburg, 9-7, but scored three first period goals.

Augsburg got on the scoreboard first, at 2:52 in the period, when Jonathan Barrick scored. The goal gave the Auggies an early 1-0 lead.

At 9:53 in the period, Huppert got the Falcons on the board to tie the game at 1-1. Schreiner was given an assist on the goal.

Just under 30 seconds later, at 10:22, Adam Cardwell (Long Beach, CA, Wichita Falls, NAHL) found the back of the net to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead. Huppert and Willie Hess (Lino Lakes, MN, Fresno, NAHL) recorded assists.

Just over a minute later, at 11:33, Alec Hagaman beat the goalie to extend the Falcon lead to 3-1. Alex Murphy (Roselle, IL, Chicago, NAHL) and Jake Calleja (New Richmond, WI, Wisconsin, MnJHL) picked up assists.

In the second period, the Auggies outshot the Falcons, 12-4, but the Falcons added three more goals in the period.

Huppert scored the first of the period, at 5:53, to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead. George Malliaras (Palos Hills, IL, Texas, NAHL) and Schreiner recorded assists.

Jeff Burke (New Richmond, WI, Topeka, NAHL) then scored his first of the year, at 7:22, to add to the Falcon lead, 5-1. Caleb Wolfgram (White Bear Lake, MN, Topeka, NAHL) and Hagaman assisted on the goal.

Augsburg then struck back-to-back goals at 10:42 and 12:30 when George Jackson and Derek Loisel scored goals to make the score 5-3 Falcons.

Zach Schrotenboer (Geneva, IL, Chicago, NAHL) rounded out the scoring in the second period, at 16:42, to give the Falcons a 6-3 lead at the end of the period. Burke recorded an assist.

In the third period, Augsburg outshot UWRF, 11-5, and both teams scored goals in the final frame.

Hess scored early for the Falcons, at 1:23, assisted by Cardwell to make the score 7-3 Falcons and Niklas Almstrom scored one more for the Auggies for a 7-4 final.

Scott Lewan (Westland, MI, Alberni Valley, BCHL) recorded 28 saves for the Falcons.

The Falcons improve to 6-5-2 overall with the win. Augsburg falls to 3-8-1 overall following the loss.

UWRF will enjoy an extended break before playing their next game against Concordia-Moorhead on Friday, Jan. 4 at Hunt Area. Puck drop is 7:05 p.m.
