Women's Hockey Loses to Gustavus, 3-2

Despite two third period goals the UW-River Falls women's hockey team fell to the Gustavus Adolphus College Lions for the second time in three days. GAC won by a score of 3-2 by scoring a goal in each one of the periods.

GAC remains undefeated on the season with a 10-0 record. UWRF falls to 7-4-2 overall on the season after the loss.

Despite out shooting GAC throughout the game the Falcons were not able to score in the first two periods. UWRF had a total of 28 shots in the game. GAC had 19 shots on goal.

 GAC Meagan Wanecke scored the first goal of the game for GAC off of the Jenna Christensen assist.

GAC kept the pressure on when they went on the power play late in the first period. Gillian McDonald (New Brighton, MN, Irondale HS) who got the start for the Falcons saved four straight shots to get out of the power-play and first period only down by one goal. McDonald finished the game with 16 saves in the game.

The Lions went 1-3 on power play opportunities in the game.

At 17:56 into the second period Carolyn Draayer scored on an unassisted goal for GAC.

Down by a score of 2-0 UWRF had a five-on-three advantage on the ice and scored on a power play opportunity when Amanda Ryder (Menomonie, WI) connected with Allie Olson (Monticello, MN, North Wright County HS) at 8:29 into the period. The goal was Olson's second of the year. Ryder now has four assists on the season.

UWRF went 1-5 on power play chances tonight.

With one minute left in the game UWRF pulled their goalie and extra skater Kait Mason (Eagan, MN, Eagan HS) scored a goal at 19:29 to give her seven goals on the season.

GAC goalie Lindsey Hibbard did not allow another goal and finished the game with 26 saves.

UWRF will have almost a whole month off before their next game. They will travel to St. Norbert College Jan. 12 with the puck set to drop at 4 p.m.
