Chloe Kinsel (West St. Paul, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored three goals and totaled five points as the Falcon women's hockey team handled Concordia 10-0 on Saturday afternoon in Mequon, Wis.
The Falcons stormed out of the gates by shooting 19 times and scoring seven goals in the first period.
Kait Mason (Eagan, MN, Eagan HS) scored the Falcons first goal just 19 seconds into the game to make the score 1-0. Alyssa Black (Mankato, MN, West HS) and Alice Cranston (River Falls, WI, St. Croix Valley Fusion) were credited with assists.
Just under a minute later, at 1:14, Kinsel tallied her first goal of the game giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Crysta Lowell (White Bear Lake, MN, White Bear Lake HS) assisted on the goal.
Katie Batters (Champlin, MN, Champlin Park HS) struck next for the Falcons at 8:39 in the first period on the powerplay making it 3-0 UWRF. Brook Story (Warroad, MN, Warroad HS) and Amanda Ryder (Menomonie, WI) picked up assists.
Kinsel scored her second goal of the game at 12:54, unassisted, to pad the Falcon lead and make it 4-0.
Just over a minute later, Cranston scored her first goal of the year to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead. Judy Daleiden (Blaine, MN, Blaine HS) and Mason recorded assists on the goal.
Story would find the back of the net next for UWRF at 15:11 to extend the Falcon lead to 6-0. Alyssa Jackson (Cambridge, MN, Cambridge-Isanti HS) and Batters picked up assists.
Kinsel then scored again at 16:06 to complete a one-period hat trick and give the Falcons a 7-0 lead at the end of the first period. Allie Olson (Monticello, MN, North Wright County HS) and Lowell recorded assists.
In the second period the Falcons outshot Concordia 12-4 and added two more goals.
Ryder scored at 12:48 with assists from Batters and Jackson and Lowell scored at 14:00 with assists from Leah Gefroh (Bloomington, MN) and Kinsel. The two goals gave the Falcons a 9-0 lead after two periods.
In the third period the Falcons outshot Concordia 7-2 and added one more goal.
Gefroh scored her fourth of the year at 12:42 with assists from Kinsel and Lowell to complete the 10-0 Falcon onslaught.
Meaghan Wenner (Osseo, MN, North Metro HS) started the game for the Falcons and tallied six saves in 40 minutes of action.
“We came out strong in the first and I was happy with our defensive game as well,” said Head Coach Joe Cranston after the game. “Our penalty kill was much improved and we killed off just under a two minute five-on-three Concordia powerplay without giving up a shot on goal.”
The Falcons improve to 6-2-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the NCHA. Concordia falls to 2-8-2 overall and 2-6-2 in the NCHA.
Game two of the weekend doubleheader will be played Saturday, Dec. 8 at 4:30 p.m.
