Tennis Splits to Open Season

The Falcon tennis team spilt a pair of matches to open the 2012 season in Madison.
In the opener, UWRF defeated Lawrence University 6-3.  In the nightcap, the Falcons were edged by host school Edgewood 6-3.
 
Jenny Paxton (Bloomington, MN, Jefferson) had a great day for the Falcons.  She won both of her matches at No. 1 singles and against Lawrence teamed up with Amanda Drangeid (Bloomington MN, Jefferson) at No. 1 doubles for the victory.
 
Draingeid also won both of her matches at No. 2 singles.
 
It took three exciting sets at No. 5 singles against Lawrence, but in the end, Kelsey Hochberger (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) prevailed 2-6, 6-4 and 10-8.
 
Hannah Klimek (Blaine, MN, Spring Lake Park) was also victorious for the Falcons at No. 6 singles, and with teammate Makayla Newberry (Rosemount, MN, Rosemount) at No. 3 doubles.
 
Against Edgewood, the Falcons came out on top at No. 1 singles with Paxton and No. 2 singles with Drangeid.
 
Hochberger and Klimek prevailed in No. 3 doubles to give the Falcons their third point of the match.
 
The Falcons open their season with a 1-1 record.  Edgewood and Lawrence are also 1-1.
 
The Falcons will be back in action tomorrow at noon as they travel to Luther College to take on Upper Iowa University.  They will then take on host school Luther beginning at 3 p.m.
