Women's Hockey Team Tops Bethel for Third Straight Win

Chloe Kinsel scored her team-best 10th goal, Katie Batters scored her ninth of the season and goalie Gillian McDonald made 12 saves to record the shutout as the Falcon women's hockey team took a 2-0 win at Bethel University on Wednesday night.

The win is the third in a row for the Falcons and UWRF is now 10-4-2 overall and ranked No. 6 in the nation this week.

The Falcons scored twice in the second period and that's all the offense needed. McDonald faced just 12 shots as the Falcon defensive effrt was strong for the third straight game. UWRF has allowed just one goal during its three-game winning streak.

The two second period goals came just 14 seconds apart. Kinsel scored, with an assist to Crysta Lowell, at :42 and Batters scored at :56. Batters' goal was assisted by Brook Storey. 

Both teams took five minor penalties and each team finished 0-5 on the power play.

The Falcons dominated in shots on goal with advantages of 11-3, 20-4 and 14-5 by period. The 45 total shots on goal for the Falcons is the second most by the Falcons in a game this year. 

The shutout was the fourth by the Falcons this year and it was McDonald's second straight shutout. She has allowed just one goal in the last three games. She has not allowed a goal in the last 191:59 minutes of acrtion.

The Falcons will be off until Jan. 26-27 when they return to NCHA play and host Finlandia at Hunt Arena. Games start at 2:05 p.m., both days.
