Box Score The Falcon men's hockey team exploded for four first period goals en route to a 6-2 win over Bethel University on Friday night at Hunt Arena.
Blake Huppert,
Willie Hess and
Taylor Burden all had a big nights for the home team. Huppert scored twice, one on a penalty shot, and also picked up an assist. Hess also scored twice and had assist and Burden had three helpers.
The Falcons dominated the first five minutes of play outshooting the Royals, 6-0. It paid off at 4:56 when
Zach Schrotenboer scored his second of the season with assists to
Mitch Kontny and Burden.
The Royals finally got their first shot on goal with six minutes gone in the period.
The Falcons kept the pressure on and made it 2-0 at 7:54. Hess scored his third goal of the season with assists to linemates Huppert and Ryan Doner.
At 9:02 the Falcons made it a 3-0 game. Kontny scored his first goal of the season with the lone assist going to Burden. About 1:30 later the Falcons went on the power play and scored to make it 4-0. Huppert scored off a deflection in front with the assist to
Jeff Burke who took a shot from the point. Hess also picked up an assist. It was Huppert's first goal of the campaign and the goal came at 11:25.

The Royals used the power play to get back in the game. Bethel got on the scoreboard just 1:34 into the first period with a power-play goal by Travis Payne to make it a 4-1 game. A second power-play goal, from Tony Larson, came at 10:02 to make it a 4-2 game and that gave BU some life.
The Falcons went ahead 5-2 when Huppert scored his second of the game on a penalty shot.
See it here. BU's Colin Mayer was called for hooking in the crease to set up the penalty shot. Huppert took his time closing in on BU goalie Dan Harper. As Huppert went from his left to right, Harper came out and tried to poke check the puck away. But Huppert pulled the puck back and dumped it into the vacated net.
UWRF added a p[ower-play goal at 13:24 of the third period. Hess scored the goal, his fourth of the year, and he was assisted by Burden and Doner.

Scott Lewan stopped 22 shots and is now 2-0 this year.
The Falcons had a 14-7 advantage in shots on goal in the first 20 minutes and a 12-11 advantage in the second 20. For the game the Falcons outshot the Royals, 35-24, for the game.
The Falcons, now 2-0-1 overall, will play at Augsburg at 7:30 p.m., on Saturday.
