Women's Basketball Comes From Behind to Win at Stout

Falcons Earn 67-52 Win

The UWRF women's basketball team got behind early, but rallied for another WIAC win, 67-52, at UW-Stout Wednesday night in Menomonie.

The Falcons trailed, 17-2, with 14:12 to play in the first half. But by the time the half ended the Falcons led, 26-25. UWRF kept chipping away at the Stout lead until Hailey Siegle made a 3-pointer with 57 seconds to play in the half. That gave the Falcons their first lead in the game, 26-25, and that's how the first half ended.

Stout scored the first four points of the second half to take a 29-26 lead with 19:01 left. But UWRF took the lead for good, 32-31, with 16:02 to go when Siegle hit a jumper. The Falcons went on an 8-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 38-33 lead with 10:37 to play. The Falcons push their lead to 10 points, 46-36 with 7:04 to go when Kristi Elles hit a three. Stout got to within four points twice after that - the last time with 2:03 to go. But the Falcons outscored the Blue Devils, 12-1, in the last two minutes of the game to get the win. 
 
Siegle led the Falcons in scoring with a career-high 20 points, and she had two steals. Hannah Pignato also put up points in the double digits with 13 which ties her career high. She had five rebounds for the night. Richell Mehus led UWRF with eight rebounds andfive assists. She also scored eight points. Mehus and Courtney Kanipes each had three steals to lead UWRF. Kanipes had a career-high eight rebounds. 

The Falcons shot just 10-34 (.249) from the field in the first half, but went 11-24 (.458) in the second 20 minutes of play. 
 
Sami Schoeder led Stout in scoring with 13 points and Brea Boomer added 12.
 
The Falcons return to the court Saturday at 2 p.m., against Viterbo College in La Crosse.
