Women's Basketball Falls 70-57 to St. Scholastica

The UW-River Falls Falcons fell 70-57 to the College of St. Scholastica Saints at home this afternoon.

Poor shooting was the story of the game for UWRF shooting just 13-59 (22%) from the field and 5-29 (17%) from behind the arc.

The Saints started the game fast as Kelsey Sorenson hit a three pointer just six seconds in and Erin Frase scored a layup inside just moments later. Sorenson went 6-8 from the field and finished with 18 points. Frase had the game high in points and rebounds scoring 20 points and grabbing ten rebounds.

St. Scholastica would never trail in the game and after one half of play they held a 41-27 point lead.

Despite the poor shooting from the field the Falcons matched or out played the Saints in other areas. UWRF had 41 rebounds compared to 37 for the Saints, forced 23 turnovers and shot 26-33 (78%) from the charity stripe. The Saints shot 26-32 (81%) from the free throw line.

Hailey Siegle connected on three three pointers and six free throws to finish with 15 points. She also was just one rebound shy of a double-double with a team leading nine. Richell Mehus snagged four steals, had four rebounds, two assists and scored 10 points going 8-9 from the free throw line. Mehus has attempted an impressive 71 free throw attempts this season cashing in on 49 of them.

UWRF won the second half battle by one point scoring 30 points while the Saints scored 29 in the second half.

The Falcons fall to 3-7 overall on the season while the Saints improve to 4-5 overall on the season. After starting the season playing seven out of nine games on the road this game was one of four straight homes games. The Falcons will be in action again tomorrow evening hosting Luther College with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
