The women's volleyball team split a pair of close matches in their first action of the season at the Illinois College Tournament. After losing in five sets to Culver-Stockon, UWRF bounced back to win in five sets against MacMurray College.

"It was certainly an exciting day of volleyball," said Falcon coach Pattie Ford. "We went the full distance in both of our matches. The first match we were up two games to 0 and lost in the final three sets and the second match was just the opposite. This  was a great first day with a lot of learning. We had some strong play and some inconsistent play, however we are going to be a very good team as the season progresses."

Against Culver-Stockton the scores were 25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 19-25, and 11-15.

Rebecca Gasper led the attack with 12 kills. Brianna Muetzel, Jean Theis, and Lisa Keppers all added nine kills. Alyssa Anderson led the team with 32 set assists throughout the match. Muetzel also added 18 defensive digs in the match. Lexi Pingel led in that category for the team with 26 defensive digs.

The Falcons would comeback and win the final three sets in the match against MacMurray College. The scores were 20-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-14, and 15-13.

Theis led the way with 19 kills in the match. Anderson added 39 set assists and Pingel had 30 digs.

The team will be in action for two more games tomorrow. Their first one will be against Illinois College and will start at 10 a.m. Their final game will be against Aurora University with the match set to start at 12:15 p.m.
