The Falcon volleyball team beat No. 24 ranked UW-Stevens Point, three sets to two, on Friday night at the Karges Center.
Falcon Jean Theis hit a career milestone when she put down her 1,000 career kill in the third set. She is the 13th Falcon to hit the 1,000 career kill mark.
The match went back-and-forth throughout the night. UWSP took the first set, 25-18 and the Falcons even the match with a 26-24 win in set two. The Falcons went ahead, 2-1, with a 25-20 win in set three. But UWSP dominated the fourth set to even the match, 25-12. UWRF won the decisive fifth set, 15-9.
"We played a very good match," said Falcon Coach Patti Ford. "We hung in there after not playing well in the fourth set to get things going in the final set to get the win. I think we played very well in almost every phase of the game."
The Falcons had four players in double digits in kills led by Lisa Keppers and Hali Tasler who finished with 15 each. Rebecca Gasper had 11 and Brianna Muetzel had 10. Muetzel had three of the team's five aces.
Lexi Pingel led the team with 27 digs while Muetzel had 26. Both teams finished with 12 total team blocks. Theis had one solo and five block assists while Keppers had six block assists to lead UWRF.
With UWSP leading, 2-1, in the fifth set, Pingle served four straight points for the Falcons to put UWRF in control. The Falcons retained the four-five point lead for the rest of the set.
The Falcons, now 11-4 overall and 2-0 in the WIAC, will next play a WIAC match at UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday with action starting at 7 p.m.
