Box Score Kait Mason scored a late game winning goal and
Ashley Kuechle recorded her fifth shutout of the season in the No. 6 UW-River Falls Falcons 2-0 victory over the No. 9 College of St. Scholastica Saints.
The game was evenly played throughout with both teams struggling to break the tie. The Saints had 11 shots in first period compared to just four by the Falcons with a majority of the Saints shots coming off the only power play opportunity of the period.
The Falcons attacked strong in the second period winning shots  on goal 18-5 over the Saints.  Again the majority of the shots came on the only power play opportunity of the period for either team. Both teams only had one penalty after the first two periods of play. Â
The even play continued throughout most of the third period. UWRF went on the power play at 9:14 of the third period but still could not get one past goalie Lindsey Hartfiel who finished the game with 35 saves.
Right after the power play SCC had a two on once chance for one of their best opportunities of the game to score but it was broken up by a big defensive play from
Kendal Evenson.
With just over seven minutes to go the Saints went on the power play and had another opportunity to score when the puck went in front of Kuechle and some players piled up in front of the net but could not get the score. Both teams finished 0-2 on power play opportunites in the game.
Mason was able to break the tie at 17:28 of the third period for seventh goal of the season off of a pass from
Leah Gefroh who now has five assists on the season. Fellow senior leader
Katie Batters helped seal the game up when she scored an empty netter at 19:41 for her 12
th goal of the season.
UWRF dominated shots in the third period 15-3 over SCC and finished the game with 37 shots on goal compared to 19 by the Saints. Â Kuechle finished the game with 19 saves and is now 8-2-2 on the season.
The loss drops the Saints to 9-4-2 and moves the Falcons to 11-3-2 on the season. The teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon at Hunt Arena with the puck set to drop at 2:05 p.m.
