The UWRF men's hockey team dropped their first game since Nov. 16 in a 2-1 OT defeat at the Concordia-Moorhead College Cobbers (9-3-1) on Tuesday evening.

Falcons senior defenseman Jeff Burke opened the scoring at 14:15 of the second period with a power play goal from the point. Burke has burned Cobbers senior goaltender Chris Neamonitis twice this season in two games. Burke now has three goals on the season, and 12 for his career; the opening goal pushes his season point total to 11, tying him with junior teammate Willie Hess. The goal was assisted by freshman forward's Christian George and Mitch Kontny, who both now have eight points on the year.

It took over 51 minutes for the Cobbers to light the lamp but their first goal tied the contest at one. Senior defenseman David Velich beat Falcons sophomore goaltender Tanner Milliron with a shot from the point. Senior forward's Caleb Suderman and Dan Hrabowych assisted Velich's second goal of the season, which was a four on four tally.

The Cobbers sent their fans home with a smile after a Jordan Christianson game-winning overtime goal at 1:41. His dramatic overtime winner was assisted by sophomore center Tucker Coburn and freshman forward Jeremy Johnson. Christianson, a freshman, now has five goals on the season. Concordia-Moorhead outshot UWRF 4-0 in overtime.

The loss snapped a seven game winning streak, dropping the Falcons' record to 9-2-1 overall and 6-2 on the road. Concordia-Moorhead avenged their Nov. 8 loss to UWRF; that 3-2 game was highlighted by Neamonitis' 42 saves, while Falcons sophomore forward Zach Schrotenboer scored the game winner in the third period.

Final shots for the game ended in the Falcons' favor, 45-37, giving Milliron 35 saves in his first career loss. Neamonitis (8-3-1) topped his Nov. 8 performance with 44 saves in the win.

Concordia-Moorhead has now won three straight games, pushing their home record to 3-1-1. They dominated in the faceoff circle late in the contest as they finished the game with a 35-23 advantage. Cobbers sophomore forward Jordie Bancroft led all skaters with eight shots on goal, all of which were stopped by Milliron.

UWRF outshot the Cobbers 18-7 in the first period but Neamonitis stood tall, carrying over his Nov. 8 effort. UWRF also outshot the Cobbers in the second, 18-13, but Neamonitis worked his magic twice over. Third period shots were 13-9 Cobbers. Shots through regulation were 45-33, in favor of UWRF.

Sophomore forward Alex Murphy registered three shots on goal in the first period alone. He has been snake-bitten since his last goal on Nov. 22. Kontny led the Falcons with six total shots on goal, while Burke and freshman forward Mike Fazio finished with five. All but four Falcons registered shots on goal, while nine players had three or more shots. Freshman forward Ryan Doner went 4-2 in the faceoff circle, good for first on the team.

UWRF finished the evening 1-3 on the power play, while holding the Cobbers off the board on the penalty kill (0-1).

The Falcons are now 1-2-1 in overtime this season.

The loss was UWRF's first ever against Concordia-Moorhead. The teams split their season series 1-1, but UWRF still leads the all-time series 11-1.

The Falcons (9-2-1) play host to the St. Norbert College Green Knights (11-2) on Friday evening at Hunt Arena; the pucks drops at 7:05 p.m.
