Box Score The UW-River Falls Falcons won in a tightly contested five set match against the UW-Stout Blue Devils to improve to 3-0 in the WIAC.
UWRF started with a close 25-22 victory in the first but were defeated 25-16 in the second set and 25-20 in the third set. The Falcons bounced back with a 25-21 fourth set victory. In the fifth set UWRF took a 14-9 lead but barley held off a Stout comeback effort before eventually coming out on top 22-20 to take the win.
UWRF won despite hitting a .127 while Stout hit a .218 in the match. Rebecca Gasper and Katie Duff led the team with 10 kills apiece. Gasper also had an impressive six blocks in the match. Tayler Fertig had eight kills with two blocks. Brianna Muetzel added seven kills and Lisa Keppers six.
Raven Klein was back at setter after missing some time with an injury and had 41 assists. Lexi Pingel led the Falcons in digs yet again with 24. Muetzel had 15, Tasler and Brooks each with 10 and Klein had seven digs in the match. Five Falcons had an ace in the match.
The Falcons now are 8-7 on the season and will play four matches at the UW-Platteville Tournament this weekend.
The Blue Devils refused to go without a fight, but ultimately fell in five sets to the Falcons of UW-River Falls. The fifth set was a back-and-forth affair as Stout came back from a 14-9 deficit before eventually losing 22-20.
