Football Takes Tough 37-7 Loss at Oshkosh

Kusilek, Christianson, Ryan All Set Milestones

The UW-River Falls Falcons (1-5) fell 37-7 at UW-Oshkosh (3-3) this afternoon in a game where Ryan Kusilek, Jordan Christianson and Jake Ryan all set career milestones.

Kusilek went over 5,000 career yards passing while Christianson now has over 1,000 yards receiving and Ryan has hit the 100 receptions mark in his career.

The Falcons were plagued by turnovers all game long with eight on the day. The first drive of the game the Falcons marched the ball down the field led by Rance Ashley but the drive ended when Christianson coughed up the ball on a fumble at UWO's 21 yard line. Ashley led UWRF in rushing with 53 yards on 13 carries.

With under four minutes to go in the first quarter Dylan Hecker plunged in for a one yard touchdown run to give UWO the lead. Kusilek would throw his first of five INT's on the next UWRF drive. The Falcon defense stayed strong throughout the first half and did not allow another touchdown until just 1:41 was left on the clock. Andy Lundgren in tackles again with seven while Zach Loos recorded six and Robbie Flom, Tyler Ledbeter and Cole Sirek each had five. Nick Jacobsen picked up a sack in the game.

A quick UWRF turnover gave UWO one more chance to score before half ended and they capitalized with a 27 yard connection between Brett Kasper and Sam Mentkowski.

Early in the third quarter Mark Johnson-Trice blocked a punt that Albert Itula fell on top of to give UWRF starting field possession in UWO territory. Another great play by the Oshkosh defense prevented UWRF from putting any points on the board when they forced an interception. Flom recorded an interception of his own for the Falcons late in the third quarter keeping UWRF still in reach.

The first play of the fourth quarter saw Kusilek find Ryan for a 18 yard touchdown connection. Kusilek finished the game with 207 yards completing 25 out of his 42 passes.
Ryan finished with four grabs for 52 yards. Christianson and Dixon each caught seven passes in the game. Christianson finished with 59 yards while Dixon had 50 yards in the game.

The rest of the game was dominated by Oshkosh as they found the end zone three more times.

UWRF will head back home to play UW-Eau Claire with 1 p.m. set for kickoff next Saturday.
