Box Score The UW-River Falls women's volleyball team lost in straight sets, 3-0, to the Webster University Gorloks on Saturday afternoon to finish the UW-Oshkosh Tournament with a 2-2 record.
The Gorloks, out of St. Louis, Missouri, never dominated at any point throughout the match, but Webster was always a play or two better than the Falcons. The difference in the match was unforced errors as UWRF finished with 26 to Webster's 17.
"Played some really good volleyball this weekend against some very strong teams," said Head Coach
Patti Ford. "We were in every match, and a couple of points here or there the matches today could have been a different outcome."
Webster won the three sets 25-23, 25-20 and 26-24. The first set slipped away from UWRF as the Falcons had 18 kills and a better attack percentage, but UWRF committed five more errors in the set. Webster was much better in the second set with a better attack percentage and better defense. The third set was sloppy with the two teams combining for 19 errors.
For the second straight match, sophomore
Tayler Fertig led the Falcons with 9.5 points and nine kills. Junior
Lisa Keppers was strong again with 8.5 points and eight kills. Sophomore
Raven Klein finished with 33 assists, eight digs and one ace. Junior
Lexi Pingel led UWRF with 12 digs and one ace, junior
Brianna Muetzel added seven digs and two kills. Junior
Rebecca Gasper was third on the team with five kills and 5.5 points. Junior
Kadie Brooks led both teams with three aces. Freshman
Amara Meyer led the Falcons with two blocks. Muetzel and Pingel were named to the 12 player all-tournament team.
"This is great play for us as we prepare to close out the conference season," Ford said.
Senior Sam Kersting led the Gorloks with 8.5 points, three blocks and six kills; senior Allie O'Toole led with 15 assists; sophomore Kaite O'Toole led with two aces; and senior Jordan Vehlewald led both teams with 18 digs.
The Falcons drop to 11-17 overall, 7-7 on a neutral court, 2-2 in the tournament, and have now lost two straight and eight of its last 10. Webster improves to 18-11 overall, 6-7 on a neutral court, and 1-3 in the tournament.
The Falcons play the UW-Superior Yellowjackets at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the last home match of the season. The "Breast Cancer Awareness Match," will, of course, be played at the Karges Center.
