Box Score The UW-River Falls Falcons won their first two matches at the UW-Oshkosh tournament Friday evening topping Wartburg College in four sets and Loras college in five sets.
First Match: Falcons 3, Wartburg 1After dropping the first set to Wartburg 25-15, UWRF took over winning the next three sets. Both the second and third sets were tightly contested as the Falcons took the second 25-23 and the third 25-22 over Wartburg. They took the momentum into the fourth set and finished with an impressive 25-16 victory.
Rebecca Gasper and
Brianna Muetzel each hit double figures in kills with 13 and 12 respectively.
Tayler Fertig added seven and
Lisa Keppers who had the best hit percentage with .312 on the day recorded six of the Falcons 42 kills. Keppers also had two solo blocks in the match.
Raven Klein had all 40 assists for UWRF. She also had 10 of the Falcons impressive 61 digs while
Lexi Pingel led with 16 and
Kadie Brooks had 13 digs in the match. Muetzel rounded out her strong match with eight digs.
Second Match: Falcons 3, Loras 2Once again UWRF dropped the first set as Loras won 25-20 to start off the match. The Falcons took a 25-20 victory of their own in the second but fell in the third 25-17 only hitting a .081 in that set. With Loras trying to close out the match UWRF fought to a 25-23 win in the fourth to force a fifth set which they took 15-10 to move to 11-15 overall on the season.
The attack was well balanced with a many players contributing to the 49 kills in the match. Keppers led with 10 while Fertig recorded nine and
Katie Duff had eight. Gasper and Klein each put up seven kills.UWRF also had nine service aces on the day. Brooks had three while Gasper and Klein each had two.
Klein recorded 37 assists and also led the team in digs with 23 of the teams 88 in the match. Pingel had 22, Muetzel 14, Brooks eight and
Michaela Piechowski eight.
