In a defensive of battle the UW-River Falls Falcons fell 17-14 to the No. 17 in the nation Stevens Point Pointers.
On a beautiful fall day where the Falcons played their first game on the new turf at Ramer Field for their home and WIAC opener on homecoming Stevens Point found a way to win late in the fourth quarter.
Andy Lundgren flew all over the field this afternoon finishing with a game high 15 tackles.
Zach Loos and
Cole Sirek each had a sack in the game.
The Pointers scored on their first offensive drive of the game going five plays for 44 yards ending in a Jesse Vervelde 25 yard field goal. Neither team scored the rest of the quarter in a game where turnovers plagued the UWRF offense. The Falcons had six total turnovers in the game but the defense continued to hold them in the game forcing Stevens Point to four turn over on downs on the day.
The Falcons marched down the field 68 yards in 12 plays to score early in the second quarter. Their goaline maryland I-formation set set up a play action three yard touchdown from
Ryan Kusilek to
Brad Beeskow.

With 2:27 left in the first half the maryland I paid off again for the Falcons when freshman
Wade Malecha plunged into endzone for a two yard touchdown run.

The defenses continued to battle in the second half. The Pointers got the ball all the way to the Falcons two early in the fourth but
Kyle Kittel got a diving interception along the back of the end zone.

The Falcons had chances late in the game to score but were never able to overcome the tough Pointers defense.
Jordan Christianson led all Falcon receivers with six catches for 68 yards.
Kywon Cartwright led in rushing with 57 yards including a big 53 yard run in the first half.

UWRF falls to 1-3 on the seaosn and will now play at UW-Platteville next Saturday with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
