The Falcon men tipped off the regular season of basketball on Saturday night as they flew into Arden Hills, Minn. to take on Bethel University. UWRF held a 34-14 all-time record against Bethel going into to the game, but the Royals would not bow on Saturday.
UWRF found themselves with a lead at halftime. After the first half, the Falcons were leading 39-34, but the offense sputtered and the Royal offense flourished in the second half. The Royals outscored the Falcons 47-28 in the second half to overcome the deficit faced at the half. The final score saw Bethel come out on top with a score of 81-67.
Joe Deppe led the Falcons' offensive attack scoring 13 points. Connor Goodwin put in 12 and Grant Erickson added 10 points himself. Matt Timlin was the high man off the bench scoring eight points for the Falcons.
Kyle Zimmerman was the leading scorer of the night putting in 26 for the Royals. Brycen Wojta (16), Pauli Von Schmidt (14) and Trevor Hall (11) rounded out the double-digit scoring for Bethel.
The Falcons next play on Wednesday at Hamline University. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The Falcons are 16-14 all-time against Hamline.
