Box Score Despite an 18 point, 11 rebound performance by
Jon Christensen, the Falcon men's basketball team lost to Monmouth, 76-73, at the UW-Whitewater Holiday Tournament on Saturday.
Christensen has scored in double digits in nine of the team's 12 games and this is the third time he has scored 18 points in a game. The 11 rebounds is a career high for the junior forward.
The Falcons battled back from a first half nine point deficit to make it a close finish. MC led, 36-27, at halftime. The Falcons had a nine-point, 11-2, lead with 14 minutes left to play in the first half. UWRF held the lead for almost all of the first half - MC took its first lead with 3:23 to play, 28-27. Monmouth outscored the Falcons, 8-0, to end the half with the nine point lead.
UWRF started the second half strong outscoring MC 11-2 during the first three plus minutes to tie the game, 38-38. Monmouth held the lead for most of the rest of the half. But again the Falcons battled back and took a 61-60 lead with 4:21 to play when
Jack Herum scored on a jump shot. The score was tied three times in the next two plus minutes. The last tie came with two minutes to play, 66-66, when Christensen hit a jumper. But from there MC outscored the Falcons, 10-6, to get the win.
Christensen had a big second half scoring 11 points and grabbing seven rebounds. He finished the game with a team-best four assists which tied his career high.
Connor Goodwin, who finished 7-10 from the field, finished with 15 points and
Grant Erickson, who had three assists, scored 11 points.
The Falcons, now 5-7 overall and 3-0 in the WIAC, return to conference action on Jan. 3 when they host UW-Whitewater at 5 p.m., at the Karges Center.
