Women's Basketball Team Falls at UWL

The Falcon women's basketball team lost an important conference game at UW-La Crosse, 64-53, Wednesday evening.

UWRF and UWL came into the evening tied for sixth place in the WIAC with UW-Eau Claire and UW-Sout. The top six teams at the end of the season earns a berth into the conference playoffs that will be held later this month.

The Eagles were able to take an early lead, and went up by 13 until UWRF's Casey Saxton responded with a free throw making the score 13-1 with 12:03 left to play in the first half. The Eagles continued to hold their lead for the rest of the half, but the Falcons were able to put up 13 points, six from Tess Lueders. That run cut the lead to 34-18 at the end of the half.

The Eagles kept the lead in the second half by 11-23 points. The Falcons finished strong to make the final an 11 point deficit.

The Falcons had 17 steals, and 48 rebounds.

Lueders led the Falcons in scoring with 12 points. She also had eight rebounds for the night. Hannah Pignato put up the second most points, with seven. Freshman Tracy Herzog helped the Falcons by putting up four points, a career high. Overall UWRF shot 15-60 (.250) from the field, and 5-21 (.238) from behind the three point line. For free throws the Falcons went 18-23 (.783).

UWRF, 4-16 overall and 3-9 in the conference, will return to action on Saturday against another team in the running for sixth place in the WIAC, UW-Eau Claire. Tip off is at 7 p.m., in Eau Claire.
