Volleyball Splits on Second Day at Viking Classic

Pingel Named to All-Tournament Team

The UW-River Falls Falcons ended the weekend at the Viking Classic with an overall record of 1-3 as they fell to Augustana College in four sets but topped Benedictine University in four sets for their first win of the season.

Lexi Pingel was named to the all-tournament team. Pingel played in 15 games over the weekend finishing with one assist, one ace and 92 digs.

First match: Augustana College 3, UWRF 1

All but the fourth set was close between the Falcons and Augustana earlier today. Augustana took the first set 25-22 but UWRF bounced back to win 25-23 in the second set. The Falcons dropped the third set 27-25 and took a 25-18 loss in the fourth set.

Lisa Keppers and Tayler Fertig both led the attack. Keppers finished with 13 kills and added four blocks while Fertig had 12 kills and had three blocks in the match.

Raven Klein had 41 assists in the match. Pingel led with 24 digs, Brianna Muetzel had 20, Tasler 15 and Kline and Kadie Brooks both had 12 kills. Muetzel had the Falcons only ace of the match.

Second match: UWRF 3, Benedictine 1

The Falcons were strong in their final match of the weekend against Benedictine. They took the first set 25-17 and after falling 25-23 in the second set they came back to win 25-15 and 25-12 in the third and fourth sets.

UWRF had 14 aces in the game led by Kline who had six. Fertig and Muetzel each had three and Brooks added two. Keppers and Fertig again led the attack as Fertig had 14 kills and Keppers recorded 13 kills.

Pingel again had the most digs with 17. Muetzel had 15 and Klein contributed 13 digs in the match.

The Falcons will play next on Wednesday, Sept. 3 for their home opener against Carleton College with the match set to start at 7 p.m.
