Box Score 2 The UW-River Falls Falcons started this morning off with a five set win over the University of Dubuque and fell in three sets this afternoon to Saint Mary's University to finish 2-2 at the Ripon Red Hawk Invitational and are now 5-7 on the season.
First Match: UWRF 3, Dubuque 2The match between Dubuque was back and forth the whole time for the Falcons. UWRF dropped the first match 25-22 but bounced back to win the second set 25-20. Dubuque came back to take the third set 25-19 before the Falcons won fourth 25-21 and the fifth 15-9 to secure the victory.
The Falcons hit .217 in the match led by
Rebecca Gasper who hit a .516 and led the team with 19 kills.
Brianna Muetzel recorded 10 kills and
Katie Duff had eight.
Dayna Dols played strong in her second day as setter for the injured
Raven Klein and recorded 50 assists.
UWRF recorded 100 digs in the match led by
Lexi Pingel with 36, Muetzel had 17 while
Hali Tasler and
Michaela Piechowski each had 12 digs. The team also had seven total aces led by Pingel with three and Tasler had two.
"We had a strong match against Dubuque and came out on the winning side of a five set match," said Falcon Coach
Patti Ford.
Second Match: Saint Mary's 3, UWRF 0Saint Mary's took it to the Falcons winning 25-15 in the first set. They followed it up with a 25-18 victory in the second set. UWRF kept it much closer in the third set but fell 26-24 to lose the match.
Gasper and Duff led UWRF in kills with Gasper recording eight and Duff seven. Dols had 27 assists. The Falcons only managed 26 digs led by Pingel with seven and Piechowski had six digs.
"I thought we played well at time against St. Mary's," Ford said. "We got better and stronger as a team and are ready for WIAC action."
UWRF will open up WIAC play Friday against UW-La Crosse at home with the game set to start at seven p.m. The night will also be the Lionhearted Fund event. Details on the Lionhearted Fund can be found here,
