Volleyball Loses in Five Sets to Careleton College - Video Added

Rebecca Gasper Leads Attack with Fourteen Kills, Four Blocks

The UW-River Falls Falcons (1-4) took the Carleton College Knights (4-1) to five sets in their home opener but dropped the match this evening.

UWRF got out to a hot start by winning their first set 25-19 over Carleton. The Knights bounced back and took the second set 25-19. In an intense third match the Falcons blew a 17-11 lead and ended up falling 25-22 but made a comeback of their own after being down in the fourth set and won 25-17 to swing the momentum back in their favor.

The fifth set went back and forth between the two teams but Carleton was able to come out on top with a 15-13 victory.

The knights hit .203 as a team and finished with 49 kills. Rachel Womack led them with 13 kills and Caroline Duke and Karen Halls each put up 10 kills. Camile Benson led the defense with 29 digs.

Rebecca Gasper had a strong match for the Falcons finishing the games with a game high 14 kills and added four blocks. Gasper hit a .379 in the game.
As a team the Falcons hit a .145 and had 49 kills. Tayler Fertig and Brianna Muetzel each added seven kills while Molly Monahan and Lisa Keppers each had six.

Raven Klein put up 38 assists in the match and Fertig was strong serving with four aces.

Lexi Pingel stayed strong on the defensive side with 28 digs. Muetzel had 16 digs, Kadie Brooks 14 and Klein with 12 digs in the match.

UWRF will pick action back up this Saturday at the Hamline Tournament. Their first match is set to be against Hamline at 10 a.m. and will play again against Crown College at 2 p.m.
