Volleyball Team Splits at Hamline Tourney

Falcons Lost to Hamline; Beat Crown

The Falcon volleyball team split in two matches played on Saturday at the Hamline University Tournament in St. Paul, Minn.

In the first match the Falcons lost to Hamline, three sets to one. HU won, 25-23, 25-23 and UWRF won the third set, 25-22. HU won the fourth set, 25-23 to get the win. In the second match the Falcons took a 3-0 win over Crown. UWRF dominated the play winning 25-11, 25-9, 25-11.

Hamline 3, River Falls 1
Taylor Fertig (11) and Lisa Keppers (10) led the Falcons in kills in the match against the Pipers. This is the second time in about a week the two teams played. Last Friday HU took a 3-0 win over the Falcons at the Viking Classic in Rock Island, Ill. UWRF hit .171 in Saturday's match with 49 kills. UWRF had three aces - one each by Raven Klein, Lexi Pingel and Kadie Brooks, but they had eight service errors.

The Falcons had six total blocks led by Klein who had one solo block and three block assists. Rebecca Gasper also had three block assists. Pingel again led the Falcons with 25 digs and Klein finished with 18. Kline also led the team with 44 assists.

River Falls 3, Crown 0
The Falcons dominated play against Crown and had 14 players compete in the match.

Gasper led the UWRF attack with 13 kills while Briana Muetzel had 11. The Falcons hit .443 in the match, their best effort of the young season. Klein led the Falcons with 43 assists from the setter's spot. She also had seven digs and two block assists. Gasper led the Falcon defense at the net finishing with four block assists. Pingel led UWRF with 11 digs and two aces.

The Falcons are now 2-5 overall and will next host St. Catherine on Wednesday at the Karges Center. Action starts at 7 p.m
