Five Falcons Score Double Digits As Men's Basketball Wins 90-76 Over Superior

On Suits and Sneakers night the UW-River Falls Falcons topped the UW-Superior Yellowjackets 90-76 with five Falcons hitting double digits in points.

For the third time this season UWRF hit the 90 point mark and improve to 6-4 in the WIAC after the win. CJ Lewis scored 15 points on 7-12 shooting, Grant Erickson dropped 13 points, had five steals while recording four assists, Jon Christensen recorded his third double-double with 12 points and 12 boards and Garret Pearson scored 10 points off the bench.

UWS scored first but only held the lead until 1:45 into the game when Lewis hit a lay up to give the Falcons the lead. Both teams would trade baskets until Erickson scored a lay up with just over 11 minutes left in the half to give UWRF the lead they would never relinquish again.

Lewis and Pearson each caught fire at different times of the first half as the Falcons went on a run and took a 50-39 lead into the locker room. Lewis finished with 13 first half points while Pearson had eight. Matt Timlin had seven points off the bench and Joe Deppe knocked in two from behind the arc for six first half points.

UWS jumped out to a quick second half start to get within four points just 1:25 into the half. With 14:44 left in the second half UWS got within three points but UWRF would not let them get any closer. Christensen hit a big three to give the Falcons a seven point lead and after a Yellowjackets basket drilled another jumper to put the lead back to six. Up by seven with just over three minutes to go Jack Herum converted a big and one play to squash any last comeback effort from the Yellowjackets. Down the stretch Erickson knocked in four straight free throws for the final four Falcon points.

UWRF shot 37-63 (58.7%) from the field while going 6-17 (35.3%) from downtown and 10-14 (71.4%) from the charity stripe. They moved the ball well with 19 assists and had nine steals.

The Falcons improve to 8-11 overall on the season and will have Saturday off before playing again next Wednesday at UW-Stevens Point with tip off set for 7 p.m.
