Only one player got over double-digits on Wednesday night for the Falcons as UW-River Falls fell by 23 points to UW-Stevens Point in a 63-40 loss.
The shooting percentages of the game are a big clue of what happened in the game as Stevens Point shot a very solid 48% from the field in the first half while River Falls only reached 38%. The free throw line was also a huge advantage for the Pointers who only missed one free throw the whole night long going 13-14 from the line. That was not the case for River Falls who went 9-22 from the line, including 2-10 from the charity stripe in the second half.
It was simply the Pointers game as they never trailed in the game. Joe Ritchay got the first points on the board with a pair of free throws and the Pointers never looked back. Stevens Point started the game on a 7-0 run.
The Pointers never took their foot off the gas. The largest lead of the game for Stevens Point was the final separation of 23. The game ended like it started with a pair of free throws put in by a Pointer, this time from Brad Freeborn.
Stevens Point saw three players in double-digits with Alex Richard leading the way with 17. Ritchay followed with 16 and Sean McGann contributed 12 off the bench.
With the win Stevens Point improves to 11-1 in the WIAC with a 17-4 overall record. River Falls falls to 6-5 in the WIAC with an 8-12 overall record.
The Falcons next play on Saturday against UW-Oshkosh. It's the Alumni Game with tipoff set for 5 p.m.
