Box Score OSHKOSH, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The UW – River Falls football team fell to UW – Oshkosh by a score of 57-12 in a cold rainy matchup that featured many injuries on both sides.
The Falcons punted on their first drive of the game, but the defense came up big with a forced fumble on the Titian's first drive of the game. Linebacker
Jay Robinson recovered the fumble and returned it 44 yards and set UWRF up inside the Titian 10 yard line. UWRF then connected on their first touchdown of the day on a 5 yard touchdown pass from quarterback
Ryan Kusilek to wide receiver
Matt Woller. The ensuing extra point was then blocked and the Falcons led 6-0 early in the first quarter.
The Titians responded with a quick three play, 65 yard drive that was capped off by a three yard run by running back Dylan Hecker. The Titians led 7-6.
Injuries played a large role in the game, none bigger than on the following drive when senior quarterback
Ryan Kusilek went down with a sprained ankle and was sidelined for the rest of the game. Kusilek finished with two completions on two attempts for 10 yards and one touchdown.
With momentum of the game up in the air for the taking, the fifth ranked Titains took control and scored 54 unanswered points.
The Falcons totaled 149 yards of offense, with backup quarterback
Ben Beckman completing six passes on 14 attempts and 72 yards as well as two interceptions.
Brandon McCarthy led the rushing attack for the Falcons with 10 attempts for 34 yards and touchdown.
Michael Diggins carried the ball nine times for 28 yards.
Woller led UWRF in receiving with three receptions for 12 yards and a touchdown.
Rance Ashley had one reception for 33 yards on a screen play in the third quarter.
Jake Betthauser snagged a reception for 22 yards, and
Nicholas Studer also had a catch for 21 yards.
Punter
Owen Schommer had his best outing of the year with seven punts with a 43.3 yard average and a long of 74 yards. He also pined three punts inside the 20 yard line.
Safety
Matt Ekman led the Falcon defense with nine total tackles, two and half of those being for a loss.
With two games to go, the Falcons are gearing up for their final home game of the year against UW – Whitewater on November 7, 2015 at 1 p.m. In the last matchup, the Falcons fell in a heartbreaking loss on senior day against the then number one Warhawks. The Falcons will look to avenge that loss on the 2015 senior day at Smith Stadium.
