Falcon Men's hockey Falls in Overtime to Foresters

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons men's hockey team (3-3-1) hosted the Lake Forest College men's hockey team (3-4), on Friday, November 20th.  The Falcons lost to the Foresters in a close and fierce battle that endured the third period and went into overtime.  The final score was Foresters 3 to the Falcons 2.  The duration of the game was two hours and five minutes and there were 476 people in attendance for this face-off.
 
Senior Tanner Milliron is this season's starter for between the pipes, and he is the ace in the hole for the Falcons.  Milliron admirably stopped 21 of the 24 shots the Foresters were able to put on net; 7 in the first, 8 in the second, 5 in the third, and 4 in overtime.
 
The goal scorers for the Falcons were Jeff Bergh and Mike Dietrich.
 
When the Falcons stepped onto the ice, they set the pace and intensity and the Foresters had no choice but to meet them.  This period seemed relaxed on both sides.  There were no goals scored in this period and only one penalty assessed at 12:24.  The period ended with 7 shots on goal for the Foresters and 19 for the Falcons.
 
The second period was much more intense than the first.  There were two goals scored during this period.  The first goal scored was done so at 4:18 by Mike Dietrich who was assisted by Cory Lushanko and Eddie Matsushima.  Not much later into the period, another goal was scored by River Falls at 9:48.  This goal was scored by Jeff Bergh who was assisted by Christian George.  This was also the highest penalty period, two for the Foresters and one to the Falcons.  The second goal the Falcons made during this period was done so on the first power play of the period.  This period ended with the score being 2-0, Falcons to Foresters. 
 
In the third period the Foresters took control.  There were two goals scored in this period, both by Lake Forest.  The first was done at 2:27 by John Nugent then the second was scored at 13:43 by Charlie Izaguirre.  There was on penalty assessed during this period, and was done so at 7:57 to River Falls Falcon Kyle Gattelaro.  This period ended with the score being tied up 2-2, the Falcons once more led the shot count at 14, with the Foresters trailing at 8.
 
The third period ended tied, so the game moved into overtime.  It almost seemed like we might move into double overtime, when at 3:25 a goal was scored.  Forester Jimmy Cusan scored the game-ending goal.  The Falcons had one shot in overtime and the Foresters had four.

Bergh led the Falcons with five shots on goal and right behind him with four shots was Mike Fazio, Kyle Gattelaro, and Mike Dietrich.  One goal was scored on a power play by the Falcons in the second period.  There were 5 penalties totaling 10 minutes, 1 for cross checking, 1 for hooking, 1 for slashing, and 2 for tripping; there was 1 penalty assigned in the first period to Lake Forest, as well as two in the second, then 1 in the second and 1 in the third for River Falls. 
 
The Falcons (3-3-1) are back in action tomorrow night, Saturday, November 21st at home.  They will be hosting Milwaukee School of Engineering.  The Falcons are set to face off against the Raiders (3-3).  The puck-drop is set for 7:00 P.M.
