Box Score

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com)- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons men's hockey team (3-4-1) hosted the Milwaukee School of Engineering men's hockey team (4-4), on Saturday, November 21st.  The Falcons lost to the Raiders in a close and fierce battle that endured the third period.  The final score was Raiders 2 to the Falcons 1.  The duration of the game was two hours and there were 461 people in attendance for this face-off.

Senior goaltender Tanner Milliron took the loss for the Falcons.  Milliron admirably stopped 18 of the 20 shots the Raiders were able to put on net; eight in the first, six in the second, and four in the third. In almost 59 minutes of play he gave up two goals.

The goal scorer for the Falcons was Mitch Kontny who was assisted by Christian George.

When the Falcons stepped onto the ice, they set the pace and intensity and the Raiders had no choice but to meet them.  The first goal scored was done so by the Falcons at 5:23.  The goal was scored by Mitch Kontny and he was assisted by Christian George.  Determined to meet them, despite the fierce and intense defence, the Raiders did score.  The second goal of the period was scored at 6:42.  The goal was scored by Raiders player Cole Larson.  This period ended with nine shots on goal for the Raiders and 11 for the Falcons.

The second period was just as intense as the first, with both team battling for goal-scoring dominance.  When there seemed to be a deadlock, almost at the end of the period, the Raiders managed to score a goal at 15:03 which was scored by Christian Elsborg.  The shots on goal were Falcons six to the Raiders seven.  The score for this period, also the final score, was Falcons 1 and the Raiders 2.

The third period seemed to be mostly played in the Raiders defensive end, but they fought the Falcons tooth and nail to keep them from scoring.  The penalties were even, one for each team, River Falls for slashing and Milwaukee for interference, each two minutes. The first penalty was assessed to Falcon Mitch Kontny at 00:58 and the second to Raider Clint Garris at 3:49.  After these two penalties, there was a lull in the action as far as goals and penalties, which held until the end of the game.  This period ended with the score being 2-1, with the Raiders leading, but the Falcons once more led the shot count at eight, with the Foresters trailing by half at four.

Captain Mike Fazio led the Falcons with four shots on goal and right behind him with three shots was defenseman Jeff Bergh.  There were six penalties totaling 12 minutes in the box, two for hooking, two for tripping, one for slashing, and one for interference; there were two penalties assigned in the first period to River Falls, as well as one in the second, and one in the third.  MSOE had one in the second and one in the third for Milwaukee.  River Falls also had the highest number of wins in the face-offs, River Falls won 26 to Milwaukee's 16.

The Falcons (3-4-1) are taking a week off of games for Thanksgiving Break.  The Falcons will be back in action the following week on Friday, December 4th at home as hey will be hosting and opening up WIAC conference play against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.  The Falcons are set to face off against the Pointers (6-1-1).  The puck-drop is set for 7:05 P.M.
