Box Score RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team pulled off a last second one point win to defeat nonconference opponent Augsburg 49-48 Friday night at Karges Center.
The Falcons who came into this game 7-1 on the season struggled in the first quarter allowing the Auggies to take the lead and control of the game 11-7.
The second quarter was still in the hands of the Auggies. The Auggies got their biggest lead of the night when they led the Falcons by eight points 21-13.
Taylor Karge sunk a three to get the Falcons within five but it was not enough as the first half ended with Augsburg leading 23-16.
The second half of the game was all Falcon ball. With five minutes on the clock in the third, the Falcons tied it up 23-23 on a layup by
Hayley Rau and then slowly took control of the game.
Katie Messman made two layups to widen the gap by four. The Falcons finished the quarter 31-25.
The Falcons went in to the fourth and final quarter with a six point lead of 31-25. They would continue their run and widen the lead to 12 points, the largest of the night. The Auggies would chip away at the lead until they took over with 38 seconds left on the clock.
The Falcons were able to pull off the one point win despite the Auggies leading by two with just seconds left to play in the final quarter.
Brynn Liljander made a three point shot to pull the Falcons ahead. The Auggies tried to rebound back but a missed three point shot sealed the deal for the Falcons and gave them the win 49-48.
The Falcons shot a 38 percent (19-50).
Katie Messman led the team with 14 points, 6-11 on shooting.
With the win the Falcons are now 8-1 on the season. The Falcons are now 6-0 this season against MIAC opponents. They will return to action on Tuesday December 29
th when they take part in the Land of Magic Classic in Orlando, Fla.
