After a 2-2 tie in the first period the UW-River Falls Falcons scored three unanswered goals in the next two periods including the eventual game winner from
Mitch Kontny as UWRF topped the UW-Stout Bluedevils 5-2 to improve to 18-4-1 on the season and 7-3 in the WIAC.
The Bluedevils notched the games first goal of the game at 6:19 into the first period. The next two goals would be Falcon scores as team leader in points
Kyle Gattelaro scored off an assist from
Terry Leabo and Kontny scored his first of the evening assisted by
Taylor Burden. Gattelaro has 20 points on the season while Leabo and Burden each have 14 points.
With just over one minute left in the period UWS tied the game heading into the period break.
Tanner Milliron would not allow another goal finishing with 33 saves in the victory. He has played in net for all 18 of the UWRF wins.
Just over five minutes into the second period Kontny scored a goal assisted by
Cory Lushanko who now has six assists on the season.
Jeff Bergh scored on a power play assisted by Kontny to give UWRF an even bigger cushion later in the period. Kontny has 16 points on the season after his big night. The Falcons went 2-6 on power play chances.
Mike Dietrich scored the final goal of the evening just minutes into the third period assisted by
Danny Hamburg and
Blake Huppert to seal the Falcon victory.
UWRF will finish up regular season play next weekend with their final home game coming Friday against UW-Stevens Point for their pink the rink game with the drop of the puck set for 7:05 p.m.
