The UW- River Falls softball team (3-1) played a doubleheader at the Rochester Dome in Rochester against Gustavus Adolphus and St. Catherine University.The Falcons won the first game against Gustavus Adolphus 10-3 and then fell to St. Catherine 7-1.
First Game: UWRF 10, Gustavus 3In the first game against Gustavus, the Falcons Morris allowed just one hit through the first three innings and two left on base. Morris, coming off of a no hitter in her first start, helped her cause on the mound in the third inning with a two RBI single to take the first lead of the game.
Gustavus answered back in the top of the fourth inning with a two run home run.
Gustavus then took their first lead of the game in the fifth inning off of a double which gave them a 3-2 lead. UWRF responded in the bottom of the fifth with three runs off of a three run home run by
Ali Murray which brought in
Sarah Sorensen and
Katie Thompson and gave the Falcons the lead back by a score of 5-3.
The Falcons then broke it open in the sixth inning with five runs off three hits and one error as UWRF got another home run, this time by Morris who hit a grand slam. The Falcons then lead by a score of 10-3 and closed the game out in the top of the seventh.
Lauritzen came into the game in the fifth inning and got the win on the mound striking out three batters and only allowing one earned run. Morris notched six RBI's and struck out four while pitching four innings with two earned runs.
Second Game: St Catherine 7, UWRF 1In the second game of the day, the Falcons faced St. Catherine University and fell by a score of 7-1.
St. Catherine started off strong with two runs in the bottom of the second off of a two run home run by Kylie Maciewski which put the score at 2-0. St. Catherine added one run in the third inning off of another home run from Krista Flugstad.
The Falcons scored in the top of the fifth off of a single from Thompson that brought in
Michelle LaCasse to make the score 3-1.
St. Catherine then responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth off of three hits. Macziewski smashed another two run home run, as well as Megan Lindenfelser who singled as two more runs came in and made the score 7-1.
Janssen took the loss for the Falcons in three innings of work. She allowed two earned runs off of four hits. She is now 0-1 with a 4.67 ERA. Lindenfelser got the win for St. Catherine.
The Falcons will next face Central College and Luther College in a doubleheader on March 6 at the Rochester Dome with the games starting at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
