Lauritzen, Morris Dominant On Mound As Falcons Sweep Finlandia

LePine, Thompson Both Homer In 10-1 Win First Game, Morris Throws No Hitter In 2-0 Second Game WIn

The UW-River Falls Falcons had their first home series of the season moved to Rosemount, Minn. to play in the dome due to weather against Finlandia and came out with the sweep after a 10-1 and 2-0 victory.

Neither Brooke Lauritzen or Abbie Morris allowed a hit from the mound on the evening. The Falcons bat caught fire in the first game as they only took five innings to win 10-1 over Finlandia led by home runs from Kaitlyn LePine and Katie Thompson

UWRF 10, FInlandia 1

After quick outs for both teams in the first innings the Falcons got things rolling in the second inning with their first run. Lauritzen was not only strong on the mound but helped her on cause with strong hitting including a single up the middle to bring in the games first run. She also went four innings on the mound striking out seven batters and not allowing a single hit.

An early error in the third inning allowed one Falcon run and a LePine homer to right center brought in two more runs to give UWRF a 4-0 lead after three. The Falcosn put the game away with a huge fourth inning. Both Lauritzen and Morris hit for RBIs and Thompson hit her fourth home run of the year as UWRF put six more runs on the board to go up 10-0. Morris has a team leading 19 RBIs so far this season.

Lauritzen now has a 1.98 ERA with a 4-3 overall record on the mound.

UWRF 2, Finlandia 0

Morris was untouchable throwing a no hitter in seven innings of work while striking out seven batters. She improves to 7-5 on the season with a 3.70 ERA. Finlandia only had one batter get on base in the game when their second at bat in the game got on due to a UWRF error.

UWRF had seven hits in the game including two from Amber O'Connell and Lauritzen who are both just shy of batting .300 on the season. O'Connell scored both Falcon runs, one unearned after an error in the second inning and one after Lauritzen hit her in with a double to left field in the sixth inning.

UWRF will next play Bethel University Monday at 3:30 p.m.
