Box Score 2 The Falcon softball team lost twice on Saturday in games played at the Rochester Dome in Rochester, Minn.
Gustavus Adolphus beat the Falcons, 7-5, in an early game, and then the Falcons dropped a 10-1 five-inning decision to Dubuque University. The Falcons are now 4-4 overall and will next play on March 15 in Florida against Benedictine University and the University of St. Thomas.
Gustavus Adolpus 7, River Falls 5The Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Gustavus came back with a couple of big innings to get the win.
UWRF scored three runs in the third.
Amber O'Connell led off the inning with a double to right center and she was sacrificed to third by
Sarah Sorensen.
Kati Stodolka then doubled to right center to score O'Connell. After a second out Kaitlyn Lepine doubled to left center to score Stodolka.
Katie Thompson then singled to left and Lepine stopped at third.
Michelle LaCasse reached on an error and Lepine scored an unearned run.
GAC scored four times in its half of the third when Jessica Neuman hit a grand slam home run. The Gusties added two more runs in the fifth on two hits and a Falcon error.
The Falcons scored twice in the seventh.
Abby Veloske led off with a single and after an out Lepine, who was 3-4 in the game with three RBI and two runs scored, hit a home run to left cetner. It was Lepine's team-best fourth homer of the year.
Abbie Morris started on the mound and took the loss, she is now 1-2. She worked two innings and allowed two hits and five earned runs. She struck out one and walked five.
Brooke Lauritzen worked the last four innings and allowed two hits and two unearned runs. She struck out two and walked one.
Dubuque 10, River Falls 1 (5)The Falcons had just two hits and committed four errors in the loss. DU scored 10 runs on 10 hits and they made one error.
UWRF scored its only run in the second. Thompson led off with a single to left and Lauritzen walked. After an out, O'Connell walked to load the bases. After a fielder's choice forced Thompson at home, Sorensen walked to score Lauritzen.
Lauritzen started on the mound and took the loss - she is now 3-1. She worked two innings and allowed four hits and four runs - three were earned. She struck out three and walked three.
Lauren Janssen worked the last three innings. She allowed six hits and six runs - but only two were earned. She struck out one and walked two.
Dubuque scored three runs in the first, one in the second and six in the third to get the win.
