Softball Team Wins Twice at Platteville to Earn WIAC Sweep

The Falcon softball team banged out 40 hits and scored 26 runs to sweep a WIAC double header at UW-Platteville on Saturday afternoon.

UWRF won the first game, 14-5, and had 22 hits. The Falcons won the second game, 12-7, and had 18 hits.

The Falcons, now 15-11 overall and 2-2 in the WIAC, will play a WIAC double header at UW-La Crosse on Sunday with the first pitch set to be thrown at noon.

River Falls 14, Platteville 5
UWRF scored four runs in the second, one in the third, two in the sixth and seven in the seventh to get the win. The 22 hits is the most by the Falcons in a game this year.

Brooke Lauritzen was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI. She hit a two run homer in the seventh. It was her second homer of the season. Katie Thompson hit a three-run homer in the seventh and she was 3-5 with a run scored. The homer was her fifth of the season. Kaitlyn LePine was 3-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Amber O'Connell also had three hits - she was 3-4 with a run scored.

Lauritzen got the win on the mound. She worked six innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs. She struck out seven and walked five. She is now 6-4.

River Falls 12, Platteville 7
UWRF had a big second inning scoring nine times. They added two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Lauritzen went 4-4 again and had two RBI and she scored three runs. She hit a solo homer in the sixth - her third of the year. Thompson had another great game at the plate finishing 3-3 with a run scored and one RBI. LePine was 3-4 with a run scored and three RBI. She hit a two run homer in the second and it was her sixth of the year. O'Connell was 3-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Sarah Sorensen hit a solo homer in the fifth and it was her third of the season.

Abbie Morris got the win on the mound. She worked six innings and allowed six hits. She allowed six runs and five were earned. Morris struck out seven and walked one. She is now 8-6.
