The UW-River Falls Falcons finished off a weekend of WIAC play with two losses at UW-La Crosse after picking up two wins at UW-Platteville the day before are are now 15-13 overall with a 2-4 WIAC record.
First Game: La Crosse 6, UWRF 2A four run third inning for the Eagles was the difference maker in the first game of the day. The Falcons recorded seven hits in the game while allowing nine. UWRF scored the days first run when
Toni Lubahn hit a single up the middle to bring in
Brooke Lauritzen.
A four hit bottom of the third put four runs on the board for the Eagles. UWRF had a strong sixth inning as they attempted to cut into the 4-1 lead La Crosse had.
Abbie Morris started the inning off with a double.
Katie Thompson followed up with a single. After two outs Morris was able to score on a passed ball.
UWL answered in the bottom of the sixth with two more runs of their own. They had a chance for more damage to the Falcons but left three runners on base.
Lubahn and Thompson each went 2-3 for UWRF in the game. Laurtizen and Morris each saw action on the mound with Lauritzen picking up the loss.
Second Game: La Crosse 10, UWRF 2UWL had ten at bats going through the lineup and scored six runs in the first inning. They won the game in six innings for their seventh straight victory.
UWRF recorded seven hits with Morris going 2-3 and
Kaitlyn LePine going 2-2 in the game. Morris is hitting a .376 with a team high 12 doubles while LePine is hitting a .387 this season. Laurtizen scored a run in the second inning after an Eagle error. The other UWRF run came in the fourth when
Shannan Borchardt ripped a single up the middle to bring in
Maddie Studnicka.
UWRF heads to UW-Eau Claire this Thursday with the first pitch set for 4 p.m.
Michelle LaCasse saw the most time on the mound in the game but Laurtizen took the loss and is now 6-6 on the season.
