Falcons Battle Cobbers to 0-0 Tie

Box Score

MOORHEAD, Minn. (uwrfsports.com)- The UW-River Falls women's hockey team (10-2-1, 5-0 WIAC) made the long trek to Moorhead, Minn to square off against the Concordia-Moorhead College Cobbers. Even though the Falcons were able to pepper the Cobber goaltender with 29 shots on goal, the Falcons were unable to sneak one past the Cobber goaltender to break the 0-0 score.

The same was true for the Cobbers. Concordia got 17 shots on goal, and Falcon goaltender Angie Hall was up to the task as she stopped all 17 shots she faced.

In the first period, the Falcons had to utilize the penalty kill, as they were penalized for two minor penalties. UWRF was able kill off both of those penalties to keep the score knotted up at 0-0. Despite the two penalties, the Falcons were able to outshoot the Cobbers 9-6.

The second period saw the Falcons on the other side of two penalties. Almost five minutes into the second period, UWRF drew an interference penalty that resulted in a two-minute power play opportunity. In the two minutes, UWRF was only able to get one shot to the Cobber goaltender, and that came from forward Jessie Andersen.

Just over seven minutes later, the Falcons were able to draw another penalty. This time it was a hooking penalty on the Cobbers, and the Falcons were able get three shots to the Cobber goaltender during the power play. Chloe Kinsel, Izzy Brosseau, and Jillayne Gilbert were able to each get a shot on goal, but none of the three shots made it past the crease.

In the second period, UWRF was able to outshoot Concordia 10-2.

Just like the first period, the Falcons spent almost six of the 20 minutes on the penalty kill. The UWRF penalty kill was up to the task, as goaltender Angie Hall and the defense did not let the Cobbers take the lead. UWRF did have a power play opportunity of its own in the third period, and the Falcons put one shot on the Cobber goaltender and that came from Jessie Andersen.

The third period ended in a 0-0 tie, and five more minutes were put on the scoreboard to see if either team could breakthrough. In the five-minute overtime period, neither team could put the puck past the opposing goaltender.

UWRF was able to outshoot Concordia 29-17. In the faceoff category, the Falcons won 23 of the 54 faceoffs. Jessie Anderson led the Falcons with five shots on goal. Chloe Kinsel was second on the team with four shots on goal.

With the tie, the Falcons' record now stands at 10-2-1. The Falcons are back in action tomorrow afternoon against Concordia-Moorhead. The puck drop is set for 2 p.m. in Moorhead, Minn.
